Neck Lift in Biloxi, MS

Board-certified plastic surgeon, Michael Diaz, M.D., F.A.C.S., performs neck lifts on people living in Southern Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama who want to remove excess skin and fatty tissue in the neck area to give a more structured contour to their neck.

What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift is designed to create a slimmer, more contoured neckline. The skin around the neck, chin, and jawline is lifted and tightened along with the muscles. Additionally, any excess skin that sags may be removed to leave the neck smooth and slimmer, so that it can enhance the face and create a younger looking appearance.

The Best Neck Lift Candidates

The best candidates for a neck lift have excess skin that is lax or has no elasticity, a double chin, and no definition. This often results from aging or losing a significant amount of weight. Good candidates are embarrassed or uncomfortable by the excess skin under their chins or around their necks. Additionally, candidates should be in good health and able to go through the surgery and heal with no problems.

Planning for Your Neck Lift

It is necessary to schedule a consultation with Dr. Diaz to discuss what you want. He evaluates your neckline as well as your overall health to determine if a neck lift or another cosmetic treatment is the best option to achieve your desired look. At that point, you can work with him to plan your neck lift surgery including preparation and recovery.

Preparing for Your Neck Lift

To prepare for your neck lift, you may be required to get a general health check-up and bloodwork to ensure your health is satisfactory and there are no underlying conditions that can be adversely affected with surgery. You should plan for transportation to and from the surgery as well as someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours following surgery. Other suggestions to prepare include avoiding any medications or supplements that thin the blood and stopping cigarette smoking, as these can slow or impair the healing process.

Types of Anesthesia

General anesthesia. General anesthesia renders patients unconscious during the surgery and unable to feel anything. Medications are given intravenously and through inhalation.

Neck Lift Procedure

The neck lift procedure involves making incisions under the chin and, if necessary, the ears. Muscles under the skin are tightened, any fatty deposits are removed, and the skin is tightened. At that point, the incisions are closed, and any excess skin is excised. Dressings are applied to protect the incisions and support the neck area during the initial healing. Neck lifts typically take up to three hours to complete especially if other treatments are performed at the same time.

After Your Neck Lift

Once the surgery is complete and the anesthesia begins to wear off, a surgical dressing is applied, and a compression wrap may be used to support and protect the neck. Most swelling starts to subside about 36-48 hours after surgery; however, it takes longer for bruising to fade. During the first few days, it is recommended that you sleep elevated at about a 45-degree angle to prevent additional swelling. Stitches are removed within several days.

How Much Does a Neck Lift Cost in Mississippi?

The cost of a neck lift varies with each patient based on the procedure and whether it is combined with other cosmetic treatments or procedures. During your consultation, we can discuss the cost along with financing options. We accept cash, checks, and offer financing through CareCredit®.

Getting Back to Normal Following a Neck Lift

It is recommended that you take a week or so off from work. When returning, it is important to avoid strenuous activities including exercise and heavy lifting for a few weeks following the procedure. You should notice some of the results almost immediately while the full results may take several weeks to a few months to become visible.

Your New Look

The look you get from a neck lift is a longer, leaner neck that enhances the face and highlights the décolletage. The results last years as long as you maintain a good skin care regimen.
