What is a Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty, or labia reduction, is a surgical procedure in which the female genitalia is enhanced or changed. Just like no two people are the same, no two vaginas are the same and vary in size, shape, and color. With labia reduction, the appearance of the labia majora or labia minora is reshaped and rejuvenated after it may become larger from childbirth, aging or even heredity.
The Best Candidates for Labiaplasty
The best candidates for labiaplasty may be unhappy or concerned by the way their labia looks or they may have some discomfort. It is more common than most people think for women to have issues with their genital area due to issues with the labia. Labiaplasty is done to correct these issues and bring relief physically and emotionally.
Planning Your Labiaplasty
To plan for your initial consultation, we recommend you have a consultation with Dr. Diaz so that he can evaluate your issues as well as your overall health to determine if labiaplasty is the best option for your issue. He also wants to ascertain an approach that best suits the situation. This appointment is the perfect time to talk very frankly about your body so that both of you are on the same page. Once a plan is developed, you and Dr. Diaz can talk about the details so that you know what to expect.
Preparing for Your Labiaplasty Surgery
We provide you with a detailed pre-operative list to prepare for your labiaplasty. There are steps you need to take including avoiding any medications or supplements that thin the blood as well as stopping smoking at least two weeks prior to the procedure.
Types of Anesthesia
Plastic surgery procedures are typically performed under either general anesthesia or a local with sedation. With labiaplasty, a local anesthesia is most often used with a mild sedation to relax patients since there is a bit more stress associated with this type of surgery.
The Labiaplasty Procedure
For the most part, the labiaplasty procedure involves shortening or reshaping the vaginal lips. The surgery takes just about an hour and involves cutting away excess tissue using either a scalpel or laser. If necessary, the edges are stitched up with fine dissolvable stitches.
After Your Labiaplasty
The recovery involved in labiaplasty is short but may result in some discomfort. We provide you with medication to relieve the pain or discomfort. We recommend you wear loose fitting clothing as there may be some swelling or bruising. This also minimizes any discomfort and prevents any delay in healing.
Other recommendations include not showering for 24 hours and avoiding baths, swimming, and sitting in hot tubs for a few weeks following the surgery or until the incisions have healed.
How Much Does Labiaplasty Cost in Mississippi?
The cost of labiaplasty varies with each person mainly based on the extent of the surgery. Since labiaplasty is often performed to relieve pain and discomfort, it may be considered medically necessary and covered by insurance. We can help you determine if your policy provides assistance with the investment. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards as well as offer financing CareCredit®.
Getting Back to Normal Following Your Labiaplasty
The procedure fully heals within a few weeks at which time sex may be resumed. Once the swelling and bruising heals, the newly rejuvenated vagina begins to take shape.
Your New Look
The full results of labiaplasty may take a few months to reveal themselves. Once it has fully healed, you will be thrilled with the results.
