Facial Surgery in Biloxi, MS

The features on the face are the first thing people notice when meeting someone new. That’s why it is common to turn to plastic surgery to correct the signs of aging or other facial imperfections. Michael Diaz, M.D., F.A.C.S., a board-certified plastic surgeon, performs facial surgery on men and women living in or around Southern Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama, who want to look younger.

What is Facial Surgery?

Facial surgery encompasses plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures that correct and enhance facial features that tend to show age with sagging skin, wrinkles, folds and other flaws. With facial surgery, one procedure typically corrects a specific facial feature, or several procedures may be performed in one surgery to correct more than one feature.

The Best Candidates for Facial Surgery

Facial surgeries are best performed on people who show significant signs of aging, want to correct a flaw in one of their facial features or to enhance a feature that needs to be corrected to look their best. Each procedure is designed to correct something specific and restore a more youthful appearance. Anyone considering facial surgery should be in good overall health, have a realistic outlook on the surgery to be done and be ready to go through the process of healing and recovery.

Planning Your Facial Surgery

First, it is necessary to meet with Dr. Diaz for a consultation to allow him to assess your concerns, talk with you about what you want out of facial surgery and evaluate your health and medical history. Once the evaluations are complete, Dr. Diaz can discuss his recommendations with you. In addition, Dr. Diaz and you may discuss the cost of the procedure so that you have a full understanding of the investment involved in facial surgery. If the procedure is cosmetic in nature, insurance typically does not provide coverage for the procedure.

Preparing for Facial Surgery

Since plastic surgery is major surgery, it is necessary to go through a series of check-ups to assess your overall health, medical history, and blood work. It is important to ensure you are ready for the surgery and have a realistic idea of the outcome. You are given a list of pre-operative instructions during your consultation to help you prepare for your facial surgery.

Types of Anesthesia

With facial surgery, it is important that patients be as relaxed and still as possible so anesthesia can be administered. The type of anesthesia depends on the procedure.

General anesthesia. General anesthesia renders patients unconscious during the surgery and unable to feel anything. Medications are given intravenously and through inhalation.

Additionally, patients are given sedation to put them in what is commonly called “twilight” sleep so that they are extremely relaxed relaxed.

Facial Surgery Procedures

Each facial surgery procedure focuses on one facial feature, which is why the details vary with each one. It is common for facial surgeries to be done on an outpatient basis and typically take no more than two to three hours depending on the procedure. Dr. Diaz performs the following facial surgery procedures:

After Your Facial Surgery

The healing and recovery process following facial surgery varies with each procedure. Some take more time than others, but rest is the best medicine for healing. You may be asked to take some time off work to recuperate – typically no more than a week. As time progresses, bruising and swelling subside, and the results of the surgery begin to appear. The goal with facial surgery is for the results to be subtly noticeable.

How Much Does Facial Surgery Cost in Mississippi?

The cost of facial surgery procedures is different based on the procedure performed along with the extent of that procedure and whether other treatments are performed at the same time. Your insurance plan may provide coverage if the procedure is medically necessary although many facial surgery procedures are considered cosmetic.

During your consultation with Dr. Diaz, we can go over the costs and our payment options. We accept cash, checks and credit cards as well as offer financing through CareCredit®.

Getting Back to Normal Following Facial Surgery

Following facial surgery, it is important to take the time to heal and recover. Many patients are asked to take a week or two off work to allow the incisions to begin healing. Although most patients return to work within 10 days, there is no strenuous activity including heavy lifting and exercise (except walking) for up to four weeks. Within a month, the healing is complete, for the most part, and normal activities may be resumed.

Your New Look

The results from facial surgery typically take several months to become fully visible. The results are long lasting with some being permanent.
