Breast Lift in Biloxi, MS

Michael Diaz, M.D., F.A.C.S., a board-certified plastic surgeon in Biloxi, MS, performs breast lift surgery for residents in and around Southern Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama.

What is a Breast Lift?

As women age, give birth and nurse babies, or lose a significant amount of weight, one of the first things to happen is the sagging of the breasts. With mastopexy, or more commonly referred to as a breast lift, the breasts are surgically lifted and placed back into their normal upright position. If the areolas need to be reduced or adjusted to point straight ahead, this is also done during the surgery.

Breast lifts are often done at the same time a breast reduction is performed. When the breasts are reduced in size and then lifted, it is sometimes necessary to cut away excess skin to be able to place them in the correct position. Sometimes it is also necessary to do a breast lift with breast augmentation to bring the breasts to a more upright, perky and youthful position.

The Best Candidates for Breast Lift

Women who are ideal for breast lifts have nursed, lost a significant amount of weight, and/or simply started to age and see the effects of these issues causing the breasts to sag or even hang. A breast lift does nothing to alter the size of the breasts; rather it repositions them back in their normal position. If a breast reduction or implant surgery is being performed, a breast lift may also be necessary to achieve the desired look.

Planning Your Breast Lift Surgery

The first step in planning for your breast lift surgery is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Diaz. Together, you and he discuss what you want your breasts to look like and the best option to achieve that desired look.

Breast lifts are elective procedures, which makes the payment solely the responsibility of the patient. Therefore, there may be some financial planning in terms of saving for the procedure or setting up financing.

Additionally, with breast lifts, the procedure requires anesthesia, so it is important to arrange help for the first 24 hours following the procedure as well as to provide transportation to and from the surgery. The recovery requires a week of rest away from work as well as any house chores so that the body can recover and heal. In addition, there is no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for a month following the surgery.

Preparing for Your Breast Lift Surgery

To prepare for breast lift surgery, pre-operative testing is required including bloodwork and a mammogram to ensure breast health. It is important to be physically and emotionally ready for the surgery as well as the outcome. About two weeks prior to the surgery, you should stop smoking, if you smoke, and stop taking any medications or supplements that may thin the blood.

Types of Anesthesia

For breast lifts, general anesthesia is used to ensure there is no pain, discomfort, or anxiety with the surgery. Most often when a breast lift is performed in tandem with a breast reduction or augmentation, general anesthesia is used because of the extended length of the surgery. General anesthesia is administered intravenously along with inhalation. An anesthesiologist constantly monitors you throughout the entre procedure.

The Breast Lift Procedure

To perform a breast lift procedure, an incision is made around the areola and possibly down the breast to the crease depending on the amount of excess skin that is removed along with the quality of skin. The excess breast skin is removed, followed by reshaping the tissue and lifting the breasts into the desired position. At that point, the skin is tightened, and the incisions are closed. The areola is repositioned and reduced if necessary. Once the procedure is complete, the breasts are dressed, and a support bra is worn. The bra keeps the breasts in place and helps reduce swelling as they heal.

After Your Breast Lift Surgery

The recovery from breast lift surgery takes about four weeks. You may return to work within a week but are limited to light work. You must avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for about four weeks or until you get approval from the plastic surgeon. Swelling and bruising are greatly diminished within a month or so. The scars gradually get lighter and are greatly diminished within several months to a year.

How Much Does a Breast Lift Cost in Mississippi?

The cost of breast lift surgery is different with each patient based on the extent of the surgery as well as whether breast reduction or implant surgery is done at the same time. We can discuss the cost with you during your consultation with Dr. Diaz as well as payment options and financing through CareCredit®. We accept cash, checks and major credit cards.

Getting Back to Normal Following Breast Lift Surgery

Most patients are back to their normal daily routines within a month following the surgery. It is important to follow any post-care instructions to ensure a speedy and proper healing process. The full effects of breast lift surgery are noticeable within a month or so of the procedure.

Your New Look

The appearance of your breasts following breast lift surgery is natural looking and more youthful. Unless you have a reduction or implant surgery during your lift, the size of your breasts stay the same just gain a perkier and younger appearance.
